Joy at Pen-yr-heol

It was wonderful to hear the news from the Revd Graham Wise that he had had the joy of five baptisms at Pen-yr-heol on June 14th this year (2009). These were the first baptisms to take place there for over seventy years, the last one being in the old “dipping pool” beyond Pen-yr-heol Farm. Other members have been baptised at Glasbury and Talgarth chapels but for this occasion the candidates wanted it to take place at Pen-yr-heol. Consequently, the church bought a fun pool and, with a good weather forecast and a wonderfully sunny day, the service was held completely in the open air and attended by about fifty people – church members, relatives, friends and folk from other churches.

The baptisms were conducted by Terry Matthews and the Revd Graham Wise and the five baptised were Christine Mottram, Elizabeth Evans, Kathryn Clifton, Paul Outhwaite and Rosemary Vaughan. At a Communion Service on 21st June they were all welcomed into membership. This took the membership from six to eleven, a very encouraging increase!

Having experienced this joyful occasion the church was further blessed with a wedding on Saturday 20th June, when James Morris and Rebecca Powell were married by the Revd Graham Wise with just about a hundred people packed into this tiny chapel.
